Valuation Guidance

This page explains who should be using the attached guidance, how to use it and what it is for. Actuaries who would like to learn more about preparing s143 valuations may like to attend one of our forthcoming seminars.


What is the guidance for?

  1. For undertaking valuations to determine the level of scheme underfunding in accordance with section 179 of the Act. The valuation results will be used to set and calculate the risk based pension protection levy.
  2. For undertaking valuations to determine the level of scheme funding in accordance with section 143 of the Act. The purpose of the valuation is to determine whether the Board of the Pension Protection Fund should assume responsibility for a scheme.
